The appliances at the Dereel Fire Brigade are housed in a 2 Bay station. We have 2 Isuzu 3.4D Tankers and a Trailer fitted with assorted specialised equipment.
Our Tankers are primarily set-up to tackle Grass and Bush Fires, however they are also equipped with the appropriate gear which allows the firefighters to also tackle Structure Fires, Hazardous Chemical Incidents and many other types of calls.
Tankers are generally used in bushfires as the water can be carried to where it is required and then used at the fire ground to extinguish the fire. The pump on a tanker runs independently, so that the truck can drive around and extinguish the fire. |

BEDFORD MK/MJ -- Brigade Owned Vehicle
Start Service: November 1985
Finish Service: November 2000
Type - 4 wheel drive (diesel engine)Tank - 2000 Litres |
|
Info -
This vehicle was the first Brigade owned truck. It was an ex-Telecom four-wheel-drive truck. It was transformed by the Trainees and staff at Langi Kal Kal Training Centre into a fire truck for the Dereel Rural Fire Brigade. It was presented to the Brigade on 11-Nov-1985 by the Centre's Superintendent Mr. Lou Iaquinto. The truck was purchased in March 1985 under a scheme to assist small Rural Brigades. It replaced an old Austin truck which the brigade has used since its inception in 1979.
Coming Soon -- View the News Paper ArticleAt the time that we were looking at selling the Bedford a member of ours took the truck to the Lake Goldsmith Steam Festival, where it became very useful for those attending that ran out of water. A farmer enquired about the vehicle as he saw the For Sale sign and went for a drive, he was very impressed that such a vehicle still had a working heater and also it was a 4 wheel drive. He signed the cheque there and then to purchase it. Unfortunately the member who took the truck there had to find another way home. |

ACCO 610A -- CFA Owned Vehicle

Finish Service: May 2002
Type - 4 wheel drive (super/unleaded engine) Tank - 3000 Litres |
|
Info - This vehicle was the brigades 3rd in its fleet history, the Brigade at the time only had the Bedford Tanker and the CFA decided that there should be a 2nd appliance based at Dereel. This truck was transferred from Riddels Creek who had it from 15-Nov-1982. The official hand over to Dereel was 11-Feb-1986. There was a note left in the Vehicle Log Book 'Good Bye + Good Luck. This has been a good Truck. So please look after it. She has work well and true for the Brigade. R. Sinclair - Captain'. This vehicle would service the Dereel Rural Fire Brigade for a very strong 16 years. It was a sad time for the Brigade to see it leave the area, the CFA auctioned off the trusty truck to a believed Golf Course in southern Victoria near Dromana. The CFA have a 20 year replacement scheme that they will ensure that no vehicle under their control will be over 20 years. |
